This website describes the repository catalog snapshot, which may contain unreleased entries. It is not a promise that every entry exists in the currently published package. Check `uvx awesome-python-dev list --json` for the catalog available in your installed runtime. GitHub stars and review dates are recorded snapshots, not live rankings.

FROM COLLECTION TO CONFIGURATION

## Equip your coding agent.

Choose a profile, preview the changes, and install into your project. Keep the same toolkit across your agents.

### 1. Check your prerequisites

Install [uv](https://docs.astral.sh/uv/getting-started/installation/) . The CLI requires Python 3.11 or newer; uv can manage Python for you. The short command installs the Python package from PyPI. Toolkit downloads need GitHub access. Install your coding agent separately.

MCP requirements depend on your selection. The starter profile uses Context7 and needs Node.js 20.18.1 or newer with npx. Serena uses uvx with Python 3.13 and may need additional language runtimes. Skills and rules do not require a running MCP server.

### 2. Preview the starter profile

Open a terminal in the project you want to equip. After uv has installed the CLI, a dry run does not download toolkit resources or write project configuration.

```sh
uvx awesome-python-dev init --agents codex,claude --profile starter --dry-run
```

### 3. Install your toolkit

```sh
uvx awesome-python-dev init --agents codex,claude --profile starter
```

This installs skills and rules and registers the selected MCP servers. Reload your agent and review its MCP approval prompts. Codex only loads project configuration from trusted projects.

### Choose your agents

Use a comma-separated list: `codex,claude,cursor,vscode,opencode`. The command above selects Codex and Claude Code. To target every supported agent, use `--agents all`.

Agent-specific setup paths and constraints are documented in the [agent compatibility guide](https://github.com/m9rco/awesome-python-dev/blob/main/docs/AGENTS.md) . Existing JSONC configuration must be converted to JSON before adding MCP entries. Skills-only selections avoid changing MCP configuration.

### Choose a framework or a single tool

Explore the [profile collection](https://m9rco.github.io/awesome-python-dev/#profiles) for Python, FastAPI, Django, TypeScript, Go, Spring Boot and security. Install a single resource with `--tools`.

```sh
uvx awesome-python-dev init --agents codex,claude --tools serena
```

### Inspect and maintain your setup

For repeat use, install the CLI once:

```sh
uv tool install awesome-python-dev
```

```sh
apd profiles
apd list --installable
apd doctor
apd remove --agents codex,claude --tools serena
```

### Prefer npm?

Use the small npm launcher with Node.js 22.21+ (22.x) or 24.5+, and Python 3.11+ or an existing uv installation:

```sh
npx awesome-python-dev init --agents codex,claude --profile starter
```

The npm launcher and runtime have independent versions. The launcher downloads a verified runtime from GitHub on first use and checks for a compatible update at most once a day. Routine toolkit updates do not require a new npm package. Install it globally with `npm install -g awesome-python-dev`, then use `apd`. See [runtime versions, caching and offline use](https://github.com/m9rco/awesome-python-dev/blob/main/docs/NPM-RUNTIME.md) .

### Pin a version or use the source fallback

```sh
uvx awesome-python-dev@0.3.0 --version
```

For installation directly from a GitHub release tag, Git is required:

```sh
uvx --from 'git+https://github.com/m9rco/awesome-python-dev.git@v0.3.0' apd --version
```

Rules and skills retain their source provenance and licenses. Managed configuration is tracked locally, and user modifications are protected. See the [README](https://github.com/m9rco/awesome-python-dev/blob/main/README.md) for command options and the [security model](https://github.com/m9rco/awesome-python-dev/blob/main/SECURITY.md) for trust boundaries.
